Caress my face
With your wrinkled hands

Look at me
With your sunken eyes

Smile, but not too much
Your lips are trembling.

Kiss my forehead
My brain will appreciate it.

Hold me to your chest
I hear your heart counting moments.

It's sad to feel you turn cold.
Your lips are speaking wordless comfort.

Ah, that last gasp.

Your eyes were wide open.
Surfaced like a sputtering sailor.

Ah, your mouth won't shut.
It has grown solid.

Has your soul escaped?

Here...
let me close your eyes.

Let's speak no more.

I'll take your ashes
and bury them.

You didn't like the ocean anyway.
hmm.

Sounds like the guy from whose point of view this was written was in the denial stage of the stages of grief.  More emotion perhaps??

Anyway someone close to me died recently.  The head of my department, who was also my academic advisor.  Wish I had some moments with him like in the poem above :'(
